Manila, Oct. 1. 2014 (BNA) – Bahrain and the Philippines have agreed on the need to activate bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation for the sake of achieving common interests and enhancing their friendship and cooperation relations.

They also discussed the best mechanisms to activate the agreements signed between them in various fields, particularly regarding efforts to encourage trade, economic and investment cooperation, and the possibility of exchanging expertise.

This came as His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa met here today the Philippines President President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Upon arrival at the Presidential Palace, an official reception was held in his honour.

Then, he inspected the Presidential Guard of Honour, whose members lined up to salute him.

After that, HRH the Prime Minister recorded a statement in the VIP Register, in which he voiced pride in the advanced level of the Bahraini-Filipino relations, and expressed the keenness of the Government of Bahrain to boost bilateral ties for the joint interests of the two friendly peoples.

Then, HRH Premier and the Filipino President held talks during which they agreed to activate joint agreements in various fields to pave the way for broadening bilateral cooperation.

The two sides agreed to bolster joint cooperation in the health field by exchanging expertise.

They also agreed to consolidate bilateral cooperation in the vocational training, in light of the government’s constant interest in upgrading human resources in the kingdom, and agricultural development, in line with the government’s policies to achieve food security.

The Philippines President lauded the way the Government of Bahrain, led by HRH Premier, had dealt with the events that the country had gone through, which, he said, reflected its wisdom and far-sightedness.

He congratulated HRH the Prime Minister on the announcement of the date of the parliamentary elections, which would augur a new chapter of national action in Bahrain.

He reiterated his country’s rejection of all forms of terrorism, and backs the efforts of the kingdom and the International Community to combat it.

He expressed his country’s desire to avail of Bahrain’s strategic location and distinguished economic and financial status to boost economic and trade cooperation with the GCC countries.

HRH Premier and the Filipino President underlined the crucial role that can be played by the private sector in the two countries to boost cooperation in all the fields, including education, health, tourism and agriculture and food security.

They also stressed the need to consolidate cooperation among Asian countries, particularly in economic and investment fields, given their huge natural and human potentials that entitle them to build up an effective model of economic cooperation.

HRH Premier expressed the kingdom’s desire to enhance bilateral cooperation with the Philippines.

He also praised the contributions of the members of the Filipino community to Bahrain’s development process thanks to their competence and distinguished skills, affirming the government’s constant desire to ensure security and safety for all expatriate communities.

HRH Premier’s visit to Manila is in line with his keen interest to strengthen bridges of cooperation with east-Asian countries, given the important economic and political weight of the ASEAN group.
