Manama, Apr. 14 (BNA): President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte met, in the presence of Deputy Premier and Head of the Mission of Honour Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Philippine community at Shaikh Khalifa Hall in Isa Town. He expressed thanks for the warm welcome and hospitality he received in Bahrain, stressing deep-rooted relations between both countries. He praised the efforts of the Bahraini government to protect the rights of the Philippine work force who, he said, are playing a key role in the national economy and the Philippines’ development process. He also lauded the good reputation of the Philippines community who enjoy respect of the Bahraini people, lauding the good humanitarian treatment accorded to them. He pointed out that the Middle East, including the Gulf, is the first destination of the Philippine expatriate labour force and the second main source of remittances to the Philippines.
The Philippines President underlined his country’s keenness to set up strong economic relations with Bahrain, expressing hope the agreements concluded during his visit to Bahrain in the economic and investment field would benefit both countries. He also expressed keenness on bigger commercial exchange, pointing out that Bahrain is an important economic partner to the Philippines. He underscored support to the Philippine businessmen and investors to set up economic projects in Bahrain, calling on Bahraini investors to invest in the Philippines and take advantage of the promising opportunities there.
