MANAMA: His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday received the Millennium Development Goals Award, from the UN in recognition of his crucial role in engineering Bahrain’s progress. Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa presented the prize. HRH the Premier stressed Bahrain’s remarkable strides to meet the Millennium Development Goals. “Any achievement is the fruit of collective efforts of all Bahrainis in the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad,” he said.

He highlighted Bahrain’s determination to attain the development goals ahead of the 2015 deadline set by the UN. The effort would require dynamic policies that spur growth, achieve sustained development and co-opt the private sector to play a crucial role. HRH the Premier urged more co-operation and partnership with the international community as part Bahrain’s commitment to meet the goals. “Winning the award was an important opportunity to showcase the government’s efforts to promote social and economic development and overcome challenges”, he said. Meanwhile, Shaikh Khalid hailed HRH the Premier’s reputation as one of the key leaders drawing attention to crucial development and urban issues.
